Through innovative drilling, resource development, and advanced geothermal technologies, Mazama Energy is expanding the frontier of renewable energy production while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible land management. The Landman plays a critical role in supporting the Company's geothermal exploration, development, and operational activities by securing and maintaining land, mineral, surface, and related property rights necessary for project success. This position serves as the primary liaison between the Company, property owners, governmental agencies, consultants, and other stakeholders while ensuring compliance with contractual, legal, and regulatory requirements. Essential Responsibilities and Duties The following outlines the essential duties and proficiency requirements for this position; however, this list is not exhaustive, and the items are not presented in any specific order of importance. Land Acquisition and Leasing The Landman is responsible for identifying, evaluating, negotiating, and securing land rights required to support the Company's geothermal exploration, drilling, infrastructure, and operational activities. The position includes the following responsibilities: Research and verify land ownership, mineral ownership, surface rights, easements, rights‑of‑way, and title interests. Negotiate and acquire leases, easements, option agreements, access agreements, rights‑of‑way, and other land‑related agreements. Coordinate with landowners, attorneys, title agencies, surveyors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate transactions and project development activities. Conduct due diligence reviews of ownership records, title documentation, and encumbrances that may impact Company operations. Manage and maintain lease obligations, payment schedules, renewals, amendments, and related contractual requirements. Support project development teams by identifying land‑related risks and recommending mitigation strategies. Assist in securing land rights for roads, transmission infrastructure, drilling pads, pipelines, water access, and other operational facilities. Represent the Company during meetings, negotiations, and community outreach activities with landowners and stakeholders. Coordinate title curative efforts and resolve ownership discrepancies as necessary. Land Administration and Records Management Maintain organized and accurate land files, lease records, maps, ownership databases, agreements, and supporting documentation. Monitor lease obligations, rental payments, royalty provisions, and contractual deadlines. Manage land management software and databases to ensure accurate reporting and record keeping. Track lease expirations, renewal opportunities, and other critical land‑related milestones. Prepare reports for leadership regarding leasing progress, land acquisition status, expenditures, and project support activities. Coordinate payments associated with leases, easements, rights‑of‑way, and related agreements. Regulatory and Stakeholder Support Coordinate with federal, state, county, and local agencies regarding permitting and land access requirements. Support environmental, engineering, legal, and operations teams by providing land ownership and access information. Assist in preparing land‑related documentation required for regulatory filings and project approvals. Foster positive working relationships with landowners, community representatives, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders. Stay abreast of industry developments, land management practices, and applicable regulations affecting geothermal resource development. Cross‑Functional Support In addition to the primary responsibilities of this role, the Landman will collaborate closely with geology, drilling, engineering, environmental, legal, finance, and project development teams to support Company initiatives. Experience and Education Education: Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Petroleum Land Management, Business Administration, Real Estate, Environmental Studies, Geography, Legal Studies, or a related field. Experience: Minimum five years of progressive land management, land acquisition, title research, or right‑of‑way experience, preferably within energy, geothermal, oil and gas, renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure, or natural resource industries. Professional Certifications: Certified Professional Landman (CPL), Registered Professional Landman (RPL), or Certified Landman (RL) preferred. Knowledge of title examination, property ownership research, contract negotiation, and land administration processes. Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations affecting land use and energy development projects. Knowledge of legal descriptions, surveys, plats, and mapping systems. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to evaluate and mitigate land‑related project risks. Understanding of energy development, permitting, and regulatory processes. Advanced record‑keeping and document management capabilities. Experience utilizing GIS and land management technologies. Tools, Technology, and Software Application Proficiency Land Management Systems: Quorum, Pandell, Landworks, or similar platforms. GIS and Mapping Tools: ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro, and related mapping software. Document Management Systems: SharePoint or equivalent. Office Suite: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Collaboration Platforms: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or similar. Records and Title Research Databases as applicable. Physical Requirements Must be able to pass drug testing (pre‑employment and random) and criminal background check. Ability to travel frequently to project sites, landowner meetings, county courthouses, and regulatory offices. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer and reviewing documentation. Must be able to occasionally walk undeveloped land, project sites, and field locations. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry materials up to 20 lbs., with assistance if needed. Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
