Trupar America is a Full Line Forklift Dealership and parts distributor based in Bentleyville, PA. We’ve been in business since 1979.We sell, service, and rent forklifts across southwestern Pennsylvania, and we run a growing e-commerce parts business at truparforkliftparts.Com.

We’re lean, entrepreneurial, and we move fast. We’re also actively investing in technology — including AI tools — to scale the business.

Why I’m writing this myself

I’m Tom McDonnell, owner of Trupar America. I’m hiring this role personally because the person who takes it will work directly with myself and the VP of Operations. I want them to know exactly what they’re walking into.

I’m not looking for a transactional accountant. I need a Controller who can oversee the entire accounting department and get involved in the day-to-day operations of each department and participate in making any changes needed to increase efficiency and profitability.

What you’ll own

Month-end close and financial reporting. Income statement, balance sheet, departmental P&Ls — closed within 10 business days. All journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit-ready workpapers. Coordination with our outside CPA at year-end.

Financial analysis and profit improvement. Margin analysis by department across New Equipment, Used, Road Service, Shop Service, Parts, Rental, and E-Commerce. A KPI dashboard for ownership. Pricing recommendations and cost reduction proposals backed by analysis. Annual budgets and rolling forecasts.

Parts and inventory accounting. Monthly parts reconciliation, supplier rebate tracking, PO variance review, and landed cost accuracy across our counter, eBay, and direct e-commerce channels.

Cash, banking, and compliance. Daily cash position, operating line of credit, floor plan financing, rolling cash forecast. Sales tax compliance through Avalara as e-commerce revenue grows. Bank recs, positive pay, fraud controls.

Team leadership. Lead a small accounting team (you’ll have input on how it grows). Set expectations, review work, hold people accountable. Drive process improvements and automation.

What I’m looking for

Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with the ability to close the books independently

- Strong GAAP knowledge;
accrual-basis, multi-department accounting experience

- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, CDK, Lightspeed, or similar dealer/distribution platforms)

- Advanced Excel — you build models, not just spreadsheets

- Genuine fluency with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) applied to financial analysis or workflow automation. This is a must, not a nice-to-have.

- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced small business with minimal hand-holding

Strongly preferred:

- CPA, CMA, or active candidate

- Dealership, equipment distribution, field service, or parts distribution accounting experience

- Inventory accounting experience — parts COGS, supplier rebates, multi-channel e-commerce revenue recognition

- Avalara or similar multi-state sales tax compliance experience

What will set you apart

I want to see an example of something you’ve done with AI, automation, or data tools that would’ve taken much longer the traditional way. Built a model faster, found a margin leak, automated a recon, produced an analysis that changed a decision — anything real. I’m not looking for someone who’s curious about AI someday. I want someone who’s already using it.

Compensation and benefits

- Base salary: $85,000 – $115,000 depending on experience

- Year-end performance bonus based on company and individual performance

- Employer-contributed health insurance

- 401(k) with employer match

- Paid time off plus paid holidays

- Monday–Friday, on-site in Bentleyville, PA

- Direct report to the Owner / President — real access, real influence
