About the Role & Company

We are seeking an experienced, results-oriented Survey Project Manager to oversee the comprehensive execution of survey projects while ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, and division profitability. Active licensure as a South Carolina Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or on the path to obtaining licensure is a plus, but not a requirement; candidates should also be able to mentor and guide other survey professionals and be based out of our Summerville, SC office location.

In this key leadership role, you will serve as a vital link across internal teams, field crews, and external stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle. You will combine financial acumen with technical direction to manage all financial, operational, and personnel aspects of your assigned projects while driving organizational growth. We are looking for an established leader who can mentor and guide other survey professionals directing the business, financial, and personnel management of the Survey Division.

Office Location & Travel Flexibility

• Summerville, SC
• Travel Expectations: While this is an office-based leadership position, candidates must be able to work on Continental United States (CONUS) infrastructure projects and be flexible for occasional travel to visit project sites, attend client consultations, or perform quality assurance inspections.

Essential Responsibilities (Leadership & Certification)

As a Survey Project Manager, you will lead the full lifecycle of survey projects, including crafting detailed proposals, setting project schedules, managing profit margins, and ensuring rigorous quality assurance. You will oversee the monthly financial health by performing pre-bill reconciliations, tracking project performance metrics, managing sub-consultants, and collaborating with accounting on billing and accounts receivable.

Your daily operational responsibilities include assigning project teams, supervising multiple survey crews, and training survey technicians in both surveying theory and practical field applications. You will cultivate strong, long-term client relationships and actively participate in business development to secure new work. Additionally, you will coordinate with state and local municipalities on certifications and permits, recruit, hire, and mentor staff, and ensure that company QA/QC procedures and safety standards are strictly maintained throughout all project phases.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates should possess a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Project Manager in land surveying/geomatics. Active licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or being on the path to obtaining PLS licensure in South Carolina is a plus. Experience in mentoring and leading other survey professionals is strongly preferred.

A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Survey Engineering or Geomatics from an ABET-accredited curriculum is preferred. Candidates must bring proven experience with ALTA surveys, construction staking, and civil engineering principles related to land development. High proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required, while experience with MicroStation, Revit, or ArcGIS is a plus. Candidates must also demonstrate strong proficiency with modern survey hardware, including Trimble systems and 3D laser scanners.

A valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are mandatory, as well as the ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and standard 7-year background check. Candidates must possess the ability to work on CONUS-based projects and travel as needed for business operations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position involves frequent sitting for extended periods while focused on computer-based administration, financial tracking, and CAD review work. Physical demands include occasional standing, walking, and navigating rough or uneven terrain during site visits and field verifications, as well as the ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Work is performed primarily indoors in a professional office setting, with occasional travel for client meetings, site inspections, and regulatory sessions.
