Technology Lead, Agentic AI & R&D

Salary: $119,300 - 178,900 per year Requirements:

• We require a masters degree in computer science, data science, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline, plus 3+ years of experience, or a Ph.D. in one of those fields plus 2+ years of experience.
• We are looking for demonstrated technical leadership, including the ability to make architectural decisions in uncertain environments and guide cross-functional engineering teams.
• We need a strong grasp of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
• We expect a security-first approach, with practical experience in authentication, authorization, input validation, and AI-related risks including prompt injection and data leakage.
• We value experience setting engineering standards, designing automated testing approaches, and building maintainable code practices that scale across teams and contributors.
• We prefer candidates with a proven record of delivering and operating complex production software end to end, including ownership of CI/CD, observability, and on-call support.
• We prefer experience building or running multi-agent or agentic AI platforms in production.
• We prefer familiarity with LLM orchestration frameworks and patterns for agent composition and governance.
• We prefer experience working in SAFe or comparable scaled agile delivery frameworks.
• We prefer strong communication skills with the ability to connect software engineering with non-technical research or product stakeholders.
• We prefer familiarity with research and development workflows, scientific data environments, or regulated data settings where security and governance are essential.

• We will expect you to serve as the technical anchor for a high-impact multi-agent platform that supports AI-enabled research and development.
• We need you to own the architecture and ongoing evolution of a production-grade agentic system for autonomous experiment design and automated reporting at scale.
• You will define engineering practices through code reviews, pairing, and concrete examples to protect quality and long-term maintainability.
• You will build and sustain shared agentic infrastructure that lets multiple programs contribute specialized agents within one governed platform.
• You will integrate the platform with external tools, partners, and the wider ecosystem to support seamless expansion and interoperability.
• You will make platform-level decisions around data sources, access controls, agent composition patterns, scalability, and technical debt.
• Within a SAFe delivery model, you will lead the technical roadmap and guide internal engineers and external contractors to keep the architecture aligned.
• You will deliver production code, own CI/CD pipelines and observability, and strengthen testing and security practices for sensitive research data.
• You will translate complex R&D needs into dependable technical solutions and communicate them effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• You will mentor developers, set an example through your work, and help the team navigate the evolving AI landscape using disciplined, evidence-based decisions.
• You will act as the enduring internal architecture lead to keep the platform reliable, secure, and extensible as the program grows.

We are based in San Jose, California, with remote flexibility available. This is a high-impact internal role within our EL-CT-S Materials AI department, and it is intended to be shared only within the organization. We offer a base salary range of $119,300 to $178,900, with possible sales or performance-based bonuses.
