Guest Teacher (Non-Certified) Substitute Applicant Pool 26‑27 SY Job Title: Guest Teacher (Non-Certified) Reports To: Campus Principal/Department Head Pay Grade: BISD Guest Teacher Non-Certified Rate $120 per day Workdays: On‑call as needed Terms of Employment: Temporary (At‑Will) Type of Assignment: Non‑Exempt Funding: This position is locally funded. Position Summary: The Guest Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role involves implementing lesson plans, maintaining a positive and respectful learning atmosphere, and ensuring the continuity of the educational process. The Guest Teacher will engage students in meaningful learning activities, support their academic and personal development, and uphold school policies and procedures. By fostering a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment, the Guest Teacher plays a vital role in helping students remain on track with their learning and achieve their full academic potential. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency. Must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of core academic subject assigned and ability to follow or deliver a lesson plan. Ability to engage and communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds in a respectful, professional manner. Skilled in delivering instructional content in‑person while maintaining effective classroom management. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Ability to be flexible and adaptable when responding to the dynamic nature of the school setting and varying student needs. Ability to work as a member of a team to help campus and staff. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, including attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality. Comply with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics. Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Basic technology skills: ability to log into staff portal, access digital lessons, take attendance, and check district Outlook account. Knowledge of Google Drive and Google programs (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides). Special Education Assignments Duties may include feeding, hygiene, positioning, transferring to and from a wheelchair, and aiding other staff using crisis intervention techniques and other behavior modification procedures. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular teacher. Ensure district policies are observed during all activities. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the needs of the students. Ensure that students are never left unattended and are appropriately supervised at all times. Be familiar with all BISD safety and evacuation procedures. Review notes for the day, take attendance, and follow the lesson plans of the teacher. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances, exhibit good judgment, and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods, when necessary, in accordance with district requirements. Use technology to strengthen and enrich the learning process. Report to campus on time and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including the planning time of the teacher (conference period). Ensure all classroom doors are locked and report suspicious activity/persons immediately. Keep informed of and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy. Dress in a professional manner consistent with school policies. Follow established campus and district routines to ensure compliance and consistency in operations. Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Leave detailed notes for the teacher or nurse on any issues experienced during the day. Support the mission of BISD by serving as a positive role model for students. Must be reliable and commit to working at least one (1) day a month or (4) days during the semester. Maintain confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Standard instructional equipment, including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non‑ambulatory students, and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment. Motion: Frequent walking, keyboarding, use of mouse; occasional reaching. Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Environment: Work inside; may work outside; regular exposure to noise. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervision of students is required; supervision and evaluation of district personnel is not a requirement.
