Job Description
Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Scheduling Details

• Shift hours: 3x12s, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, every other weekend (EOW)
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Requests for time off, block, and special scheduling must be included with submission
• Facility may call off one shift every two weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during a 13-week contract
• First-Time Travelers Accepted: Yes (one year of travel experience preferred)
• Locals Not Accepted: Must follow radius rule criteria
• Pending Licenses Accepted: Yes; must be a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine or hold a valid temporary authorization from another state during the VA license process

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) not accepted

Required Clinical Skills

• Critical care experience required to work in a high-volume ER and Level 1 Trauma Center, including neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU patients
• Competent in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and skilled in administering various respiratory medications
• Proficient in ABG interpretation and ventilator management, including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Airway management skills, including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
• Proficient in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)

Unit Details

• Patient Ratios: 1:25
• Patient Population: Serves adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Protocols: Robust Assess and Treat protocol in place, including ventilator management
• Equipment: Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with the iNOvent, and LTV1200
• Floating: May be required to float within designated skillset
