Teaching Artist

Company Description Dance Moves STL is dedicated to building social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance. Through standards-based, in-school residencies, the organization uses ballroom dance vocabulary to help children develop maturity, respect, teamwork, and a sense of joy and accomplishment. Programs are designed to cultivate essential life skills and positive feelings that are inherent in every child. Dance Moves STL envisions schools and communities where every child feels connected, respected, and supported in an environment where they can thrive. Role Description Drawing on their own unique talents and the rigorous training received from Dance Moves STL, Teaching Artists (TAs) are responsible for delivering DMSTL’s programs through sequential residencies, at schools and community based organizations across St. Louis. DMSTL residencies consist of 20 lessons spanning 10+ weeks, with lessons occurring 2xs a week for 45-60 min. Teaching artists are assigned a 20 lesson residency and are expected to see the residency through in its entirety. Base pay for DMSTL Teaching Artists begins at $50/lesson. All TA candidates must participate in a 3-5 day paid training prior to beginning residency work. Applicants must be able to commit to a ten-week residency of two to five days per week, for at least two sequential semesters, along with occasional staff meetings and events. Dance Moves STL residencies take place during school hours (8am-3:30pm). We serve schools within the St. Louis metro area and a Teaching Artist may work in more than one school per day. Qualifications Skills in classroom management, youth engagement, and creating inclusive, supportive learning environments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with students, school staff, families, and program colleagues. Reliability and professionalism, including punctuality, preparedness, and consistent follow-through on commitments. Comfort working in schools across diverse communities in St. Louis, with cultural responsiveness and respect for all backgrounds. Access to transportation to travel to school sites within the St. Louis area. Prior teaching, arts education, or youth development experience is strongly preferred; a background in education, dance, theater, or related fields is a plus.
