Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining agency project objectives. Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation. Assists with the development of design and project development reports, surveys and correspondence. Coordinates on design schematics. Coordinates with properties, utility companies, attorneys and governmental representatives to accurately depict the highway project's impact on adjacent properties. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on‑site engineering reviews, analysis, tests, and to provide technical support. Additional Duties for a Transportation Engineer II Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts. Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts. Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations, and assisting in transportation planning studies. Minimum Qualifications Education : Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science; bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Experience : Transportation Engineer I: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience. Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certification Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer. Must have Open Water Diver certification if performing underwater bridge inspections. Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within one year of hire. Professional engineers licensed in another state, but not currently licensed in Texas, must meet Texas licensing requirements, obtain a Texas Professional Engineering license within six months of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
