Minimum 6 months Paraprofessional or Special Education experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful difference each day by supporting a high-needs student in a post-secondary transition program. This contract position offers the unique opportunity to work closely as a 1:1 paraprofessional, building valuable skills in a specialized educational environment. The role runs from 8:00am to 3:30pm and includes accompanying the student on their daily bus ride to and from the program, ensuring safety and consistency in their routine. You’ll collaborate within a team that includes an experienced classroom paraprofessional and a dedicated special education teacher.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience as a paraprofessional or classroom aide, particularly in special education settings
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and effectively support students with high needs
- Strong communication skills, adaptable to working one-on-one and in a team environment
- Patience, reliability, and a supportive attitude
- Ability to assist with personal care and mobility if needed
- Comfortable maintaining awareness and safety protocols during transport
- Commitment to fostering independence and growth for transitioning youth
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with one student, adapting assistance strategies as needed
- Support academic, social, and life skills instruction in the classroom and community settings
- Escort and attend to the student during bus rides at the start and end of each day
- Collaborate closely with classroom staff to ensure consistency in support
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) under guidance of the special education teacher
- Document student progress and communicate observations with the educational team
