Acute Clinical Staff Pharmacist

Location Tucson, Arizona Shift Schedule Part‑time, varied shifts: 06:30AM‑03:00PM, 11:30AM‑02:00PM, or 01:30PM‑10:00PM. Position Summary Responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients using the medication use process. Accountable for documentation, oversees pharmacy technicians and interns, coordinates workflow, and approves medications prior to dispensing. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care and adhere to local, state, and federal pharmacy laws. Core Functions Processes medication orders and evaluates their appropriateness and completeness with respect to patient data, including age, height, weight, diagnosis, laboratory values, and other pertinent information. Utilizes clinical pharmacy skills to assess patient medication regimens and formulates recommendations to ensure optimal safety, efficacy, and cost‑effectiveness for all prescribed therapies. Contacts prescribers with suggestions for improvement and resolves problems with medication orders as needed; serves as a resource for patients and the health‑care team, providing requested medication information in a timely manner. Complies with directives of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee/Clinical Consensus Group and documents patient‑care activities in the electronic medical record and other electronic databases (e.g., pharmacist‑to‑pharmacist/provider communication, adverse drug event reporting, and clinical interventions). Drives professional development through the utilization of BPS educational resources to achieve competence in current and future BH acute pharmacy core clinical practices and activities; assists with training and onboarding of new staff as applicable. Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile or non‑sterile compounded medications, in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Coordinates medication preparation and distribution and ensures accuracy prior to dispensing. Oversees day‑to‑day operations of the pharmacy, which may include management of technology, inventory management, and accurate record keeping; supervises and directs the work of pharmacy technicians, interns, and students. Minimum Qualifications Unrestricted Pharmacist licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. For Arizona pharmacists: provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire. If not licensed in the state of practice, complete the Board of Pharmacy application process within 30 days of job offer and be licensed within 90 days of hire unless the delay is due to the State Board of Pharmacy. Banner Registry and Travel positions require a current and unrestricted Pharmacist license (not intern) at the time of hire and a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting, with work in an acute care setting within the past 12 months. Good organizational, problem‑solving, and computer skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts. Knowledge of medication management information system software, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems. Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment, and must sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency program or previous clinical pharmacy experience. Previous hospital experience. Additional related education and/or experience.
