Job Title: Forklift Operator / Warehouse Worker Job Description

This role is responsible for the accurate and timely receipt, storage, movement, and shipment of materials within a warehouse environment. You support daily operations by following FIFO processes, freight procedures, and all safety guidelines while operating forklifts and using RF scanners to handle inventory and customer orders.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unload inbound shipments safely and efficiently.

• Verify materials against documentation and process incoming orders accurately.

• Stock, store, and label inventory in designated locations following FIFO processes.

• Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders for shipment using an RF scanner or scan gun.

• Inspect outbound orders for accuracy, completeness, and proper packaging before shipment.

• Process customer returns and report damaged shipments or discrepancies to management.

• Perform regular inventory checks and daily cycle counts to maintain accurate stock levels.

• Move, replenish, and organize materials throughout the warehouse using forklifts and other material handling equipment.

• Palletize, load, and unload shipments while ensuring products are handled and stored properly to prevent damage.

• Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safe working conditions throughout the warehouse.

• Follow all shipping, receiving, and warehouse management system (WMS) procedures and safety guidelines.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a warehouse environment.

• Hands-on experience with order picking, shipping, receiving, and inventory counts.

• Proficiency in pick and pack operations and handling customer orders.

• Experience using RF scanners or scan guns for order picking and inventory management.

• Forklift experience on either sit-down or stand-up equipment.

• Knowledge of material handling, palletizing, stocking, loading, and unloading shipments.

• Ability to follow FIFO processes and established freight procedures.

• Strong attention to detail to verify materials and ensure order accuracy.

• Ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in a fast-paced warehouse setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with warehouse management systems (WMS).

• Comfort working with packaging and shipping processes.

• Ability to perform daily cycle counts and reconcile inventory discrepancies.

• Strong communication skills to report issues such as damaged shipments or returns.

• Reliability in following safety guidelines and maintaining a safe work environment.

Work Environment

This is a warehouse-based role with a standard Monday–Friday schedule, with only occasional Saturday work a few times per year. The environment involves active material handling, forklift operation, and use of RF scanners and warehouse management systems. The dress code requires work-appropriate jeans and shirt along with steel-toed boots to support safety and comfort in an industrial setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grimes, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
