Accounting Manager
Xchange Auto
About Xchange Auto
Xchange Auto is a growing vehicle procurement and export business with operations in the United States and Canada. We are a small, entrepreneurial company where employees have meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to directly improve how the business operates.
We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of our accounting function and manage an existing Accounting Assistant.
This is a hands-on position. We are not looking for someone who only reviews reports or delegates work. The right person will be comfortable managing an employee while also personally handling month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, cash management, and more complex accounting matters.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Own the monthly close and preparation of accurate, timely financial statements.
- Manage, train, and review the work of an existing Accounting Assistant.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, vehicle payments, and payroll accounting.
- Monitor cash balances, upcoming payments, and expected customer receipts.
- Maintain accurate accounting across U.S. and Canadian entities, including intercompany and USD/CAD transactions.
- Ensure individual vehicle costs and profitability are accurately captured and reconciled.
- Coordinate with outside CPAs on tax filings, sales tax, GST/HST, and year-end accounting.
- Prepare financial information required by banks and lenders.
- Maintain accounting for related entities, including Huskins Properties.
- Strengthen internal controls and payment procedures.
- Document accounting processes and identify opportunities to simplify or automate manual work.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with AP, AR, bank reconciliations, payroll accounting, and general ledger accounting.
- Experience managing or reviewing the work of accounting staff.
- Strong organizational skills and a track record of meeting reporting deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a small business where the Accounting Manager is expected to be both a manager and a hands-on accountant.
Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, foreign currency, vehicle or inventory costing, logistics, automotive, distribution, or cross-border U.S./Canada operations is preferred but not required.
CPA or CMA credentials are welcome but are not required.
The Type of Person Who Will Succeed Here
We are looking for someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done.
You should enjoy improving processes, solving accounting problems, developing employees, and creating structure in an entrepreneurial environment.
This role is a good fit for an experienced Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager who wants broader ownership of an accounting function while remaining involved in the work.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected salary range of $85,000–$95,000 , depending on experience.
- Paid time off.
- Company contribution toward health insurance.
- Opportunity to take ownership of and improve the accounting function of a growing business.
Location
This position is based in Washington, Illinois. Remote US based candidates are welcome to apply.
