Research Workflow Engineer (RWE) – PREP Research Associate The PREP Research Associate will design, develop, test, and deploy a scalable data movement pipeline that integrates across the research lifecycle. The role focuses on connecting existing systems and processes for use cases from CHIPS Metrology projects, ensuring data sensitivity, access control, and auditability. Key Responsibilities Develop an understanding of typical research data workflows and related systems. Design, build, test, and deploy a workflow system that interfaces with existing components to enable a scalable, auditable data movement pipeline. Incorporate data orchestration and movement tools such as Apache Airflow, Kafka, Dagster, or other suitable alternatives. Attend and present results at weekly Research Data Infrastructure meetings. Archive or transmit results, protocols, software, and documentation to the broader organization. Participate in regular meetings with NIST staff. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field. 2–3 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. Ability to work with real‑time event data at scale. Proficiency in multiple scripting languages. Capability to develop prototypes for tools needed to analyze data. Strong oral and written communication skills.
