Perform all the usual roles of a veterinary technician as well as clinic administrator, understanding that the clinic’s primary goals are to teach the high school students the skills of a typical veterinary assistant as well as provide affordable care to the local community. Help instruct technical skills and safe working habits in the clinic setting and set an example of exceptional client service for each pupil. Foster the attributes of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability. Veterinary Technician: Work closely alongside the Veterinary Medical Director to run appointments, including taking efficient histories, handling/holding animals (may include exotics), providing treatments, and filling/dispensing medication. Work closely with the Veterinary Medical Director to run sedated and anesthetized procedures, including X‑rays, dental procedures and surgery. Under the direction of the Veterinary Medical Director, call and relay diagnostic results, treatment recommendations, and answer client questions. Manage inventory, including ordering medications and supplies. Student Management: Training, education, and development of Co‑Ops and Interns in collaboration with Veterinary Medical Director. Manage intern work schedules to ensure appropriate center and student support at all times. Student supervision during appointments and/or surgeries. Client Management: Oversee client flow to ensure that clients and patients are seen and treated in a professional, timely and competent manner. Coordinate the voucher process for clients. Center Management: Assist the Medical Director with advancing the veterinary center in meeting the needs of the local community, particularly with an emphasis on providing low‑cost care when able. Perform transaction corrections and prepare the reconciliation of all transactions with the business office. Follow SOPs for prepping records, callbacks, and authorization forms (surgery, laboratory, X‑ray, euthanasia, grooming, etc.) coordinate and prepare materials for Vet Techs to work into lessons. Coordinate and disseminate promotional material and prepare social media for the Vet Center in collaboration with PR Intern. Coordinate any outreach to community, shelters, and ACOs with Veterinary Medical Director. Meetings: Attends meetings as needed. Communication: Read and respond to all communications in a timely manner. Ensure that BCAHS policies, guidelines and recommendations are quickly communicated to center staff and that adequate training follows. Communicate regularly and collaborate with the Medical Director. Physical Requirements: This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 50 lbs. The employee may also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust, smoke fumes and gasses. Salary: $25‑$30 per hour ($41,250‑$49,500 per year) Schedule: Monday‑Friday: 8:00‑3:30 Terms: 220 days subject to grant funding.
