Principal UX Engineer, Ads

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal UX Engineer, Ads based in the United States.

This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role at the intersection of product design and engineering.
You’ll use code as a design medium to prototype ideas, test assumptions, and shape product direction.
You’ll work across advertising products and experiences, partnering with Design, Research, Product, Engineering, and Data Science.
The role combines deep technical craft with systems thinking, enabling teams to move from concepts to polished products faster.
You’ll establish reusable tools, components, and workflows while raising the bar for accessibility, performance, and interaction quality.
You’ll also explore how AI can transform both advertising experiences and the way product teams design and build.
As a principal-level contributor, you’ll influence multiple product areas, mentor others, and help define the future of UX Engineering.

• Define and lead the UX Engineering strategy across multiple advertising product areas, influencing product direction beyond individual projects.
• Build sophisticated, high-quality prototypes and functional experiences that help teams explore concepts, validate assumptions, and make informed product decisions earlier.
• Partner with senior leaders across Design, Research, Product, Engineering, and Data Science to clarify complex opportunities and translate ideas into compelling user experiences.
• Develop reusable tools, systems, components, and workflows that improve collaboration between design and engineering and accelerate the path from exploration to production.
• Establish high standards for interaction design, accessibility, performance, usability, and technical implementation across advertising experiences.
• Investigate and apply AI-enabled approaches to improve both advertiser-facing products and internal design and development workflows.
• Identify opportunities to improve UX Engineering practices, tooling, and processes across the broader organization.
• Mentor UX engineers and other practitioners, share technical and design expertise, and help strengthen UX Engineering as an organizational capability.
• Navigate ambiguous, high-impact problems by balancing user needs, technical constraints, business priorities, and product strategy.

Requirements:

• Extensive experience working at the intersection of product design and software engineering, with a strong portfolio of sophisticated interactive products or experiences.
• Advanced hands-on expertise with modern frontend technologies, particularly React and TypeScript.
• Strong product, interaction, and visual judgment, with the ability to transform complex concepts into intuitive, polished, and accessible experiences.
• Proven ability to operate across multiple teams or product areas and influence product strategy at a senior level.
• Strong systems-thinking skills, including experience developing reusable components, platforms, tools, frameworks, or workflows that enable other teams to work more effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments, identify tradeoffs, and bring diverse perspectives together to reach strong decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when working with senior cross-functional stakeholders.
• A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence without relying on direct authority.
• Genuine interest in remaining deeply hands-on while mentoring others and raising the technical and product quality of the broader team.
• Experience in advertising is helpful but not required; relevant backgrounds may include marketplaces, enterprise software, analytics, commerce, developer platforms, AI-powered products, or other complex multi-sided ecosystems.
• Ability to explore emerging technologies, including AI, and translate them into practical improvements to product development and user experiences.
