Emergency Room Nurse (ER)

This position is for an Emergency Room Nurse with the following specifications:

• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Years of Experience: 2 years
• Weekend Requirements: Required to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts within a six-week schedule
• Holiday Requirements: Yes

Certification Requirements

The following certifications are required for this position:

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• ENPC or PALS
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• TNCC

Unit Information

The Emergency Room operates with the following characteristics:

• Trauma Level: III
• Number of Beds/Trauma Bays: 15 beds, 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track: Yes
• Triage Area: Yes, with the expectation that all nurses may assist in triage duties
• Separate Psychiatric/Seclusion Rooms: Yes
• Security: In-house 24/7, located in the ER
• Average ER Patients Treated Per Day: 40+
• Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:4

Roles and Responsibilities

The Emergency Room Nurse will be responsible for:

• Providing quality care to patients with various diagnoses such as abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headaches, and injuries.
• Administering common drips, including cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and analgesia.
• Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, mid-level providers, nurse aides, EMTs, and paramedics.
• Collaborating with respiratory therapy staff available in the ER 24/7, performing tasks related to equipment like vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow.
• Drawing labs, as phlebotomy is also available within the ER.

Scheduling Methodology

• Self-scheduling is permitted, along with block scheduling options.
• Weekend and holiday shifts are mandatory as per departmental needs.

Professional Attire

The dress code specified for this role includes navy blue scrubs.

Orientation

New hires will participate in a week of orientation, with the date and location assigned during this time.

Note: Candidates may be required to float within Zone 1 based on operational needs.
