Conversational CNC Machinist

Job Description Job Description Location: Near Portland Shift: 2nd & 3rd Shift Available Summary The Conversational CNC Machinist I is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision parts that meet quality standards. This position requires hands-on machining experience and the ability to work independently in a production environment. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Production Supervisor. Responsibilities * Set up and operate CNC milling machines using conversational controls (ProtoTRAK preferred) * Read blueprints, process sheets, and job instructions * Machine parts to tight tolerances (up to ±.0002") * Edit and adjust programs as needed * Assist with setups and processes for new parts * Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding * Adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, and tooling during production * Inspect first-piece and in-process parts using precision measuring tools * Troubleshoot machining and setup issues * Maintain coolant levels and basic machine maintenance * Prepare materials and setups for upcoming jobs * Operate secondary equipment during cycle times when needed * Cross-train in other machining areas * Keep work area clean and safe Qualifications * High School Diploma or GED required * Minimum 1 year of CNC milling experience required * Setup experience required * Conversational programming experience preferred * Ability to perform machine setups independently * Blueprint reading and basic GD&T knowledge * Experience holding tight tolerances * Experience using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges * Understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and offsets * Mechanical troubleshooting skills * Ability to work with minimal supervision * Steady rest experience is a plus * Must provide basic hand tools Physical Requirements * Stand for extended periods (8-10+ hours) * Lift up to 50 lbs as needed * Frequent bending, reaching, and machine interaction required
