ATTORNEY III

Salary: $10,852.00 - $15,325.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary or the minimum of an alternate range when applicable. Location & Telework Hybrid telework opportunities; required in-person attendance at least two days per week. Work location: 400 R Street, Sacramento, CA. Position Overview Under the general direction of the Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney III advises on complex and sensitive legal matters affecting the California Victim Compensation Board and performs litigation, investigations, hearings, negotiations, and legal research with minimal supervision and broad discretion. Responsibilities Advise on complex litigation and investigations. Conduct hearings, negotiations, and legal research. Use oral and written advocacy skills. Apply laws, regulations, and CalVCB policies. Maintain independence and initiative in case management. Employment Conditions Designated under the Conflict‑of‑Interest Code. The appointee must complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and annually thereafter. Failure to comply may void the appointment. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without a visa before the start date. CalVCB uses E‑Verify in its hiring practices. Minimum Requirements Member of the California State Bar. Juris Doctor degree. Minimum of five years of post‑barrister legal experience in litigation or related areas. Desirable Qualifications Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access. Ability to develop and evaluate statistical data. Experience interpreting policies, regulations, and laws. Ability to follow verbal or written direction from supervisors.
