Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor

Job Summary The Phlebotomy Technician performs the pre‑analytical phase of specimen preparation, obtaining blood specimens from patients, verifying labeling, and processing samples for laboratory testing while maintaining a professional, customer‑sensitive atmosphere. Essential Functions Follows established hospital and departmental precautions and procedures to ensure patient and staff safety. Obtains blood specimens from patients in accordance with established procedures. Demonstrates workflow and procedure knowledge with management, co‑workers, new employees, inspectors, and visitors. Receives direction from the management team and participates in continuing education as appropriate. Maintains hand hygiene, uses patient identifiers, communicates effectively during hand‑offs, and applies proper personal protective equipment. Job Responsibilities Verify correct specimen and labeling for test orders. Register and label tubes accurately. Centrifuge and aliquot specimens per department policy. Sort, store, and deliver laboratory specimens by department and requirements. Work with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen problems. Answer telephones and provide assistance as needed. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent (required). Phlebotomy Technician (PT) certification preferred; ASCP Board of Certification (PBT(ASCP)) preferred. 3–5 years of experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. Internship or equivalent 0–1 year required. Physical Requirements Standing, walking, and sitting frequently (34–66%). Lifting up to 35 lbs with assistance, carrying 20–35 lbs. Pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and balancing occasionally. Climbing and crawling rarely; reaching and manipulating frequently. Visual and auditory functions constant or frequent.
