Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
• Perform arterial puncture, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
• Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines , and insertion/removal of endotracheal tubes via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope
• Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Document all treatments and patient responses accurately in respiratory care records and the patient chart; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification valid in the state of Texas
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Ability to operate a broad range of respiratory therapy equipment with minimal supervision
• Experience performing arterial blood gas analysis and interpreting results to assess ventilation efficiency

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an acute care or intensive care setting
• Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Experience assisting with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement procedures
