Drainage Design Engineer

This position focuses on the planning, analysis, and design of roadway drainage systems, bridge crossings and stormwater management systems for a wide range of public and private sector projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in hydrology and hydraulics and experience supporting transportation, highway, and site development projects. For more information, visit: ResponsibilitiesPerform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for roadway, bridge, and site development projectsDesign hydraulic structures and prepare Bridge Survey Reports and Culvert Survey ReportsPerform floodplain analysis and prepare SFC/CLOMR/LOMR packagesDesign stormwater management and drainage systems including:Closed drainage systems, cross-pipes and open channelsStormwater Control Measures (SCMs) Prepare drainage reports, calculations, construction drawings, and technical memorandaDesign erosion and sediment control plans and prepare supporting documents and calculationsApply state NCDOT, municipal, and regulatory design criteria and standardsCoordinate with roadway, structural, utilities and environmental design teamsSupport permit applications with permit drawings and Stormwater Management Plans Assist with construction phase services, including shop drawing review and field supportMentor junior staff and contribute to quality control efforts (as experience level allows)QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Biological and Agricultural Engineering, or related field4+ years of drainage and hydraulic design experience (transportation preferred)Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 monthsWorking knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics principlesProficiency with drainage and design software such as:HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8HydroCAD, StormCAD, or similarMicroStation / OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3DFamiliarity with NCDOT and local agency drainage, erosion and sediment control, and floodplain standardsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environmentPreferred ExperienceHydrologic and Hydraulic analysis and design for NCDOT highway and transportation projectsStormwater permitting and regulatory coordination experienceFloodplain analysis and FEMA mapping support experience2-D Floodplain Modeling experienceExperience with green infrastructure and sustainable drainage solutionsRequirementsMaintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final considerationRead, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English languageBasic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team membersAble to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working GPI offers excellent benefits, including a 401(k) plan, ESOP, medical/dental/vision plans, paid time off, and more.
