Housekeeper

Job Summary Cleans and services rooms, baths, lavatories, if any, andother restricted areas. Dusts furniture and equipment. Cleans window sills,empties trash baskets, and arranges furniture in an orderly fashion. Performs avariety of related duties in resident areas. Cleans and services assigned areasand equipment; efficient expenditures of soap, polishes and similar supplies;and keeps facility in a clean and orderly manner. Services are performed withinevery department of* the facility and are planned with all departments. Education Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and writteninstructions. Qualifications Previous experience preferable but notessential. Worker receives on-the-job training withsupervision. Must have some knowledge in the use of cleaningdevices such as brooms, mops, buffers and other cleaning equipment. Has an interest in learning, ability to cooperate, and is willing to work under supervision. Must work thirty-seven and one-half (37.5) hoursper week, working weekends and holidays as scheduled. Must have a pre-employment and an annualTuberculosis screening examination. Responsibilities To execute duties under the direction andsupervision of the Director of Nurses and/or Administrator, Charge Nurse, andHousekeeping Supervisor according to assignment. To keep the nursing facility in a clean andsanitary condition in order to provide for the welfare and care of theresidents in a healthful environment. Must have a genuine interest in working withgeriatrics. Willingness to perform routine, repetitive taskson a continuous basis, and perform tasks despite frequent interruptions. Ability to perform tasks with due considerationfor residents in area. Initiative and judgement involved in maintainingassigned area in clean and orderly condition. Works under close supervision performing simple,standardized tasks. Physical Demands Use the percentage range as follows: 0% Never 1-33% Occasionally 34-66% Frequent 67-100% Continuous Requires full range of body motion including: Standing/Walking Frequently: Worker is on their feet the majority of the day to perform direct or indirect duties related to housekeeping. Bending/Stoop Frequently: Required to bend or stoop in many job activities such as removing wax from floor, stripping and waxing floors, etc. Lifting/Handling Frequently: Required to handle cans of wax, disinfectant, etc. These activities are frequently done with push/pull activity. Range of weight 10-75lbs. Carrying Occasionally: Worker must carry large cans, boxes, sacks, variousequipment. Range of weight 1-75lbs. Push/Pull Frequently: Required when working various machinery. Moving beds and furniture over tile or concrete floors. Range of weight 25-300lbs. Balancing Occasionally: Carrying heavy objects where necessary. Twisting/Turning Frequently: In combination with lifting and bending when stocking shelves, cabinets, buffing, waxing, and stripping floors. Crouching/Stooping Occasionally: When handling various detergents, waxes and other housekeeping products. Reaching Frequently: Required to perform various tasks throughout the day. Greater than shoulder height: Occasionally Equal to shoulder height: Frequently Less than shoulder height: Frequently Handling/ManualDexterity Continuously: Both fine and gross motor skills are needed in all types of housekeeping duties. Speaking/Hearing/Seeing Continuously: Must be able to communicate with coworkers, patients and visitors. Functions related to cleaning Dust furniture with damp cloth or polishingcloth daily; straighten furniture. Dust light fixtures outside and inside. Dustwindow sills and beds, clean all door vents. Empty and wash ash trays and waste baskets. Dry mop floors in residents’ rooms, then wet moprooms if assigned. Clean wash basins, commodes, polish chromefixtures in bathrooms, wash all mirrors, and spot clean walls. Clean window blinds. Clean beds thoroughly.Clean bedside tables in patient’s rooms, dust all shelves, removing allarticles making sure thorough cleaning is done. Clean housecleaning cart. Clean any equipmentused daily. Clean all rooms each week. Assist with emergency cleaning during the day asrequired. Performother duties as assigned. Mope,wax, and buff hallways, living areas, and dining areas as assigned. Functions related to suppliesand equipment Practice economy in using supplies andequipment. Dispense supplies according to need. Maintain safeguards for the care, storage, anduse of supplies and equipment. Report to Administrator or Charge Nurse anysupplies or equipment needed, or any broken or defective equipment. Functions related to facilitysupervision Make frequent rounds of total facility toinspect for cleanliness and order. Inspect for maintenance and refer needs to maintenance department or Administrator and/or Charge Nurse. Functions related to newresidents See that resident rooms are prepared for newadmissions. Help new residents unpack and settle in rooms. Assist in marking all clothing for laundry. Assist in moving residents within facility. Functions related to reporting Be on duty at the beginning of shift and punchtime cards; report to CHARGE NURSE at beginning of shift for any additionalinstructions in duties. Report to head nurse before going off duty, signtime card and leave facility. In the event of illness or other reasons for absenteeism, report to ADMINISTRATOR or CHARGE NURSE in ample time to allowother arrangements to be made for performance of duties.
