Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in South Park Township, Pennsylvania .


Overview


The role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, focusing on developing work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The position offers opportunities for career development and gaining experience across various engineering and design areas.


Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, mostly related to programmatic work.
• Work with customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
• Perform engineering calculations for structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker.
• Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
• Support field activities, including site inspections and returning to the office for design work.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Assist in developing design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in urban environments.
• Coordinate with conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout all project phases.

Qualifications

• Completed bachelor of science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for job-related travel.
• Willingness to perform both field and office work, with occasional outdoor environment work.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar.
• Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
• Knowledge of NESC and design standards.
• Professional attributes including a collaborative attitude, positivity, professionalism, and inclusivity.
