Job SummaryWeatherford is seeking a motivated and experienced Product Owner to join our expanding software engineering organization to develop industry leading software solutions. The Product Owner owns the tactical execution of assigned products by translating Product Manager strategy into structured, sprint-ready delivery. The Product Owner ensures delivery teams build the right capabilities, at the right time, in the right sequence, while maintaining velocity, quality, and alignment to defined business outcomes. Operates at the intersection of product strategy and engineering execution. While the Product Manager owns vision, business case, and outcome accountability, the Product Owner owns the “how and when” of delivery. This includes backlog refinement, sprint planning, acceptance criteria definition, daily prioritization decisions, and unblocking teams to maintain predictable flow. This role requires an execution disciplined, agile-fluent leader who can unambiguously translate strategy into delivery, resolve ambiguity for the team, protect delivery flow, and make smart tactical trade-offs that preserve velocity and qualityResponsibilities BACKLOG OWNERSHIP & READINESSOwn and maintain prioritized sprint backlogs that reflect strategic prioritiesTranslate Product Manager outcomes into actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteriaEnsure backlog items meet definition of ready and maintain 2 to 3 sprints of execution-ready workAlign backlog entries with delivery goals and PDLC complianceSPRINT PLANNING & TACTICAL SEQUENCINGLead sprint planning with engineering, aligning priorities with capacity and urgencyMake day-to-day prioritization decisions within strategic guardrailsResolve story ambiguity, clarify requirements, and manage scope within sprintsEscalate strategic scope or priority decisions needing roadmap trade-offs to the Product ManagerENGINEERING PARTNERSHIP & DELIVERY SUPPORTAct as the primary liaison between development teams and the Product ManagerPartner with Engineering Leads to validate technical feasibility and sequencingShield teams from undue disruptions and ambiguous prioritiesFacilitate Agile ceremonies including daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectivesTrack team delivery metrics (velocity, cycle time, burndown) and work to maintain predictable flowACCEPTANCE, QUALITY & PDLC COMPLIANCEAccept completed work against well-defined acceptance criteriaValidate that delivered features create the intended value and meet quality standardsEnsure compliance with PDLC stage gates and governance requirementsCapture technical debt and non-functional requirements for future refinementDELIVERY TRANSPARENCY & RISK MANAGEMENTMonitor delivery health and flag risks before they impact sprint outcomesProvide clear, data-backed delivery status and impediment reporting to the Product ManagerSurface integration risks or dependencies early to avoid surprisesEnsure sprint commitments are realistic and communicated to stakeholdersOPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTIdentify opportunities to improve backlog management, refinement practices, and sprint flowPartner with Engineering to reduce cycle time and improve predictabilityLeverage tooling such as Azure DevOps to enhance visibility and trackingDrive continuous improvement in Agile ceremonies and execution disciplineSkills/Education Required 5+ years in technical delivery, Product Owner, or similar roles embedded with Agile teamsProven hands-on experience using backlog tools such as Jira or Azure DevOpsExperience writing user stories and acceptance criteria for software teamsExperience scaling Agile and backlog management for large teamsDemonstrated partnership with Engineering and Product Managers in execution environmentsDeep understanding of Agile execution practices (Scrum/Kanban)Skilled at backlog refinement, story decomposition, and sprint planningStrong enough understanding to engage with engineers on feasibility and constraintsAbility to interpret delivery metrics and adjust sprint plans logicallyExceptional clarity in written and verbal communicationProactive risk identification and escalation capabilityAbility to resolve ambiguity and remove blockers swiftlyStrong partner to Product Managers and Product Tech LeadsAbility to influence without authority within delivery teamsSkills/Education PreferredUnderstanding of drilling operations, well construction principles, and drilling automation technologiesFamiliarity with industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to drilling operations and Managed Pressure DrillingScrum certification (CSM/PSPO) or similar Agile credentialsAbout Us:Weatherford is a leading global energy services company.
