Endoscopy Technician (67091)

General Summary of Duties United Digestives Endoscopy Technician is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all endoscopy equipment per manufacturer guidelines. The technician contributes to the overall function of the center by assisting with instrument reprocessing, basic clinical tasks, housekeeping duties, clerical work, and front‑office duties as assigned by management. Under direct supervision the technician will assist with patient care as needed. Responsibilities Assist with the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Explain procedures and expected sensations to patient and provide instructions to ensure cooperation and minimize discomfort. Provide both emotional and physical support during procedure. Set up appropriate equipment for procedures and ensure necessary supplies are available. Assist the physician with procedures as directed. Takes and records vital signs: blood pressure, pulse oximeter, ECG leads, nasal cannula, and grounding pad. Collect, prepare, and label specimens accurately. Report patient findings/observations to supervisor or RN responsible for the patient in a timely fashion. Cleans, maintains, and understands processes to handle expensive and fragile equipment according to manufacturers’ published guidelines. Maintains an adequate supply in procedure rooms, utility rooms, pre‑op, and recovery areas. Reports broken equipment to supervisor or RN in charge, sends out equipment for repair, and maintains an accurate count of endoscopes according to policy. Follow infection control procedures and supports established policies, procedures and quality improvement initiatives. Makes post‑procedure telephone calls and documents on all required forms/systems. Follows written and verbal directions involving patient‑care policy and procedure. Assists with admission/discharge procedures as directed. Cross‑trains and provides back‑up support for any area, including scope room and front office. Displays willingness to expand skills to include minor procedures and data entry. Completes all required trainings as directed. Performs any other duties and/or special tasks as assigned. Required Education, Skills & Experience High school diploma or GED required. Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent required; a minimum of two years of endoscopy experience may be considered in lieu of certification. Certified Flexible Endoscopy Reprocessor (CFER) preferred. Computer literate and able to operate various healthcare systems and Microsoft Office applications. Communicate clearly with patients, clients, and coworkers via telephone, email, and in person. Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated. Work under pressure; assess, respond to, and communicate issues in a timely manner. Maintain composure and set a professional example for coworkers. Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently. Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Good visual acuity and accurate color vision. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement, and feel sensation to discern temperature, texture, size, and shape. Ability to speak and hear. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Mental demands include the ability to handle several directives and set priorities. Patient care environment with potential exposure to blood and body fluids that may carry infections, and to chemical and electrical hazards.
