REQUIRED SKILLS
Basic Qualifications Valid driver's license with a clean driving record High School Diploma or GED Must be able to pass a drug test and background check Must own basic hand tools, including: Wrench, Screwdriver, Hammer Must obtain and wear work boots (ASTM-F2413) with steel or composite toe, laced up or pullup; boots must be above the ankles and have a defined heel. Technical Experience 1–2 years of experience in a data center, NOC, technical operations, or similar IT environment (Data Center experience isn’t needed) Experience installing and supporting server, network, or infrastructure hardware Basic understanding of copper and fiber cabling Experience working with ticketing systems and documenting technical work Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Soft Skills – THE most important aspect of this role Consistently arriving on time Providing advance notice when absences or schedule conflicts arise Ability to work independently without requiring constant direction Ability to work effectively as part of a team Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs Ability to work on ladders Ability to work in confined spaces Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Day to Day: Location York, SC Schedule Monday–Saturday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM Duration 6-Month Contract (Potential Extension or Conversion) Job Overview Our client is seeking a Data Center Telecommunications Technician I to support structured cabling projects within data center environments. This individual will be responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining copper and fiber optic cabling infrastructure, while ensuring all work meets industry standards, customer specifications, and site safety requirements. The ideal candidate will assist with cable pathway installation, rack and cabinet deployments, documentation, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and MAC activities, while working closely with project teams to deliver high-quality installations in both active construction and live data center environments. Responsibilities Install, pull, route, and secure copper and fiber optic telecommunications cabling throughout data center environments. Read and interpret construction drawings, cable schedules, rack elevations, and pathway layouts. Install cable pathways including basket tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, conduit, innerduct, and other supporting infrastructure. Terminate, dress, label, and test copper and fiber optic cables in accordance with customer specifications and industry standards. Assist with installation of cabinets, racks, patch panels, cable management systems, and telecommunications equipment. Perform cable routing while maintaining proper bend radius, separation requirements, and pathway fill ratios. Ensure all cabling is neatly dressed and installed to meet quality standards and customer expectations. Perform Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) for structured cabling systems. Install and label equipment in accordance with TIA/EIA, BICSI, and customer‑specific standards. Utilize hand tools, power tools, ladders, and cable pulling equipment safely and effectively. Conduct cable continuity testing and basic fiber testing using approved test equipment. Identify and report installation deficiencies, damaged materials, and potential project issues to field leadership. Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, cable labeling, and red‑line drawings. Support commissioning activities by assisting with cable verification and troubleshooting. Follow all customer, company, and site‑specific safety requirements, including OSHA and project safety protocols. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area at all times. Work effectively as part of a team while taking direction from Leads, Foremen, and Project Management. Support multiple phases of structured cabling projects in active construction and live data center environments. Adhere to quality control processes to ensure all installations meet project specifications and customer acceptance criteria. Travel to project sites as required and work overtime, weekends, or shift work when project schedules demand.
