Controls Engineer - Medical Device Manufacturing & Automation

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to support a new medical device manufacturing plant. This role will focus on commissioning new high-volume automated assembly equipment and later transition into troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of controls systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop specifications and user requirements for controls, SCADA, and communication systems
- Oversee controls design and build by OEM vendors
- Support installation, FAT/SAT, validation, and commissioning activities
- Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and automated equipment
- Optimize machine performance, reduce downtime, and improve productivity
- Implement software/firmware changes and manage change control documentation
- Support and train maintenance and production teams
- Work on vision systems, MES interfaces, and machine networking
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing/industrial automation
- Strong experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs
- Hands-on with:
- RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 / Logix Designer
- FactoryTalk SE, Ignition
- Cognex vision systems
- Experience with VFDs (PowerFlex), Servo Drives (Kinetix)
- Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet)
- Experience with PID tuning, fieldbus systems, and serial communication
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
Preferred Skills
- Medical device manufacturing experience
- Experience with Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
- Exposure to Beckhoff or B&R (ABB) PLCs
