About the Position

Job Title: Float Pool RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care and Emergency Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Previous nursing experience preferred; no mandatory experience required License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: ADN or ASN required; BSN preferred Description: The Float Pool RN is responsible for patient populations that include but are not limited to ICU, ED, Med-surg, and Telemetry, and must float between these areas. The Float Pool RN provides flexible nursing support throughout the organization in response to patient care and staffing needs. Qualified candidates must possess experience in either the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit, along with Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience. Float assignments are determined on a shift-by-shift basis according to hospital capacity and operational demands. This role requires the ability to deliver safe, high-quality patient care across multiple clinical settings, demonstrating flexibility, clinical competence, and strong critical-thinking skills. Key Job Responsibilities include: Assessment of patient needs. Perform and document comprehensive assessments in accordance with RN scope of practice and hospital policies. Consider the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identify patient risk factors and presenting complaints. Obtain patient health information from family or others as necessary. Collect objective/quantitative and subjective/qualitative data. Verify initial admission assessments if obtained by other healthcare team members. Develop a problem list, prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team as appropriate. Design actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age. Determine desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care. Fully implement patient care therapies and procedures within the established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. Explain procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families. Initiate action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Recognize, respond to, and communicate changes in patient condition appropriately. Conduct and document ongoing assessments and responses to procedures and therapies following hospital policies. Delegate tasks appropriately and oversee team members in the execution of patient care activities. Monitor the accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care provided by other team members. Identify and address educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems. Facilitate the patient discharge process, executing discharge orders in a timely manner. Provide input into patient/nurse assignments based on staffing and patient acuity. Demonstrate active participation in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities. Promote a positive group dynamic and healing environment through actions and communication.
