Neurology Veterinary AssistantSouth Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking a full-time Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Neurology team in Asheville, NC. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys advanced patient care, specialty medicine, and working alongside board-certified specialists in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You'll play an important role in supporting neurology patients while developing your skills in one of the region's premier specialty hospitals.Compensation$20–$26/hour based on experienceFull-Time BenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insuranceGenerous paid time off401(k) with employer matchEmployee pet insurance discountsContinuing Education (CE) opportunitiesLeadership development and career growth opportunitiesCommitment to work-life balanceAnd more!ScheduleFull-TimeTuesday–FridayFour 10-hour shiftsSchedule will transition to Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts as the Neurology service expands to Monday appointmentsResponsibilitiesAssist the Neurology team with daily patient flow and specialty appointments.Prepare exam rooms and assist veterinarians during neurology consultations and procedures.Provide nursing support for hospitalized neurology patients.Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures.Obtain and record patient vital signs.Assist with obtaining diagnostic radiographs.Perform in-house laboratory testing.Fill prescriptions according to hospital protocols.Maintain accurate patient records and support efficient workflow throughout the department.Follow OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and SAVES' One Team mentality in all interactions.Remain calm under pressure while adapting to changing patient care priorities.Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Neurology service.QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine requiredAt least 1 year of specialty or emergency veterinary medicine experience preferredExperience with advanced patient handling and restraintStrong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitudeAbility to adapt quickly in a fast-paced specialty environmentKnowledge of Microsoft Office requiredExperience with EzyVet and SmartFlow preferredAbility to interpret medical instructions, estimates, discharge information, and hospital protocolsAbility to perform basic mathematical calculations related to patient careComfortable lifting and restraining animals weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance when appropriateAbility to work in a physically active hospital environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, and liftingBilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plusFluent English speaking and reading skills requiredAbout the HospitalSince opening in 2009, South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) has been dedicated to providing advanced emergency and specialty veterinary care while fostering a culture built on compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence.Our recently expanded, state-of-the-art hospital allows our teams to practice advanced medicine alongside highly skilled specialists and emergency clinicians.
