JOB DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Technician reports to our Plant Manager and is responsible for all facets of routine and preventive maintenance at our site. This role may also be required to provide support in the operation of equipment due to unplanned events. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the company vision and mission, exercising tact, sensitivity, and professionalism at all times as a representative of Valtim in the community, to co-workers, as well as to current and future customers. Time Allocation 75% is spent on tactical day-to-day activities for which he/she is fully accountable and responsible. 15% will be spent on documentation and record keeping relating to inventory, equipment, and facilities maintenance and repairs. 10% is spent on planning and providing direction for outside technicians or crews, as instructed by Management. Responsibilities and Duties General and Administrative Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the company’s commitment to quality, continuous improvement and respect for individuals. Comply with all OSHA safety requirements. Follow systems and procedures outlined in the company manuals. Constantly seek to acquire new skills and to find ways to improve existing ones. Assure all paperwork is complete, accurate and delivered on time. Production Operations Organize and perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly and operate efficiently. Monitor building systems to ensure efficiently; maintenance of physical condition of buildings. Become familiar with and troubleshoot operations. Follow company policies and safety regulations. Able to read, understand and communicate effectively; take and apply instructions. Provide support in the operation of equipment during unplanned events. Ensure immediate work area is organized and easily accessible. Perform other related duties as required and assigned. Production Personnel Provide a positive, motivating example for co-workers. Ensure that all personnel policies and procedures are followed. Ensure that all quality control procedures are followed. Comply with training; if unclear ask for further direction. Equipment and Supplies Inform the Plant Manager of equipment and production problems. Record when items are removed from Maintenance Parts Inventory. Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications. Ability to read, understand, and follow equipment manuals. Qualifications High school diploma or GED with experience or vocational/technical certification. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong mathematical aptitude. Outstanding attention to details and results oriented. Proven ability to complete projects with limited assignable resources. Previous experience in a mechanical and maintenance role preferred. Some travel may be required for equipment and technician training and certification; average of 2 times per year, or as required. Working Conditions Ability to stand, sit, stoop, crouch, and walk for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day. Able to lift 20 lbs continually and up to 50 lbs occasionally throughout a shift Capable of traversing stairs (both up and down) unassisted. Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Exposure to chemical fumes and airborne particles such as paper dust. Fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity. All Maintenance Technicians must comply with scheduled coverage for on‑call support during “off hours” and weekends. The Maintenance Technician must proactively seek to increase knowledge and training needed to effectively support production employees when called.
