Job Title: Quality Control Laboratory Technician
Job Description
This role is a hands-on, chemistry-focused Quality Control Technician position within a large chemical processing facility. The technician performs routine and specialized chemical analyses to support production, ensures products meet quality specifications, and maintains accurate documentation in a regulated laboratory environment. The position offers exposure to advanced analytical instrumentation, opportunities for professional growth within the Quality Department, and potential to move into research and development roles over time.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized chemical analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products in a quality control laboratory.
  • Operate and maintain standard chemical laboratory equipment and instrumentation with demonstrable proficiency.
  • Utilize specialized analytical platforms such as thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, capillary rheometry, melt indexers, and assay methods as needed.
  • Conduct analyses using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), pH measurement, viscosity testing, and other chromatography techniques to verify product quality.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and good documentation practices to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant records.
  • Record and report test results on batch sheets and in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform wet chemistry and other quality control tests in alignment with facility quality standards and ISO requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting of analytical methods, instrumentation issues, and out-of-specification results in collaboration with advanced technical staff.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles when applicable, including proper documentation and sample handling.
  • Work collaboratively with production and technical teams to ensure that quality issues are identified, communicated, and resolved promptly.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, including proper handling of chemicals and adherence to facility safety procedures.
  • Participate in training and continuous improvement activities within the Quality Department to enhance methods, processes, and overall laboratory performance.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry; other science degrees may be considered with prior chemical manufacturing experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, with experience from various industries considered.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard chemical laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience performing chemical analysis, wet chemistry, and quality control testing.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) documentation.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and their application in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to follow and work within the requirements of an ISO-certified facility.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to laboratory methods, equipment, and test results.
  • Ability to accurately document and communicate test results, including completion of batch sheets and related quality records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is a plus.
  • Experience with thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, capillary rheometry, melt indexers, and assay methods is beneficial.
  • Exposure to viscosity testing and other chromatography techniques beyond GC and HPLC is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume production support setting where multiple tests must be performed routinely.
  • Interest in long-term growth within Quality Control and potential progression into research and development roles.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical staff and production personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent, high-quality work in a regulated environment.

Work Environment
The position is based in a large specialty chemicals manufacturing facility situated on an expansive industrial site. The role is primarily laboratory-based, supporting production operations in a plant environment that focuses on oleo chemicals, performance chemicals, and specialty chemicals. The laboratory and production areas handle chemical products and may not resemble the cleanliness standards of pharmaceutical environments, so candidates should be comfortable working in a more industrial, process-oriented setting. Work involves routine use of advanced analytical technologies such as HPLC, GC, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, capillary rheometry, melt indexers, and related equipment, as well as regular interaction with a Laboratory Information Management System for data entry and reporting. A technical staff member is available on-site during the night shift to provide guidance and support. The organization emphasizes manufacturing and marketing quality products while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and craftsmanship, offering a supportive environment with clear pathways for growth within the Quality Department and potential movement into R&D. Dress and personal protective equipment are consistent with working in a chemical processing and laboratory environment, where adherence to safety procedures and use of appropriate protective gear are expected.
