Physician -Chief of Neurology

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the application. Duties Play a major role in the Neurology Section’s clinical, administrative, and educational consultative support for all inpatient services. Provide educational training to resident physicians, guide fellows, residents, and medical students on rotations from academic affiliates, and perform consultative support on inpatient units. Prescribe medication, perform minor procedures, injections, laboratory requests, and treat patients in an outpatient setting. Probationary Period On completion of the 2‑year probationary period, employment will be terminated unless certified in writing that continued employment advances the public interest. Evaluation includes performance, conduct, agency needs, and efficiency. Qualifications Applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed. Current VA physicians who met previous standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements. Basic Requirements U.S. Citizenship (same condition as above). Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia. Residency Training: completion of an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include: Accredited graduate medical education programs by ACGME or AOA, published for the year of completion. One year of post‑medical school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice under a full license. Non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, including duties related to the position. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement Board certified or eligible Neurologist. Preferred Experience Five years of leadership experience. Physical Requirements Participation in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation. Query about physical demands can be addressed at the time of examination. Education Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an institution whose accreditation was in place at the time of graduation. Accredited schools include: LCME accredited medical schools for the year of degree grant. COCA accredited osteopathic medical schools for the year of degree grant. For foreign medical graduates not covered above, confirmation of ECFMG eligibility for the graduation year.
