Registered Nurse Correctional

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Correctional setting is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care with a focus on medical/surgical patients within a secure facility. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, ensuring quality care in a correctional environment. The nurse must have at least 2 years of recent acute care experience in Med/Surg and correctional experience, demonstrating strong clinical skills and adaptability to facility needs. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients in a correctional facility.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Float to other facility units as required within scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner electronic charting system.
• Adhere to facility policies and procedures specific to the correctional environment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid for the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing.
• Correctional nursing experience required.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Ability to work effectively and safely within a correctional facility.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system.
• Additional certifications related to correctional nursing or acute care.
• Ability to float flexibly to meet facility staffing needs.

Special Considerations:

• Mandatory float to other facility units as directed.
• No block scheduling accommodations; strict shift assignments.
• No call requirements.
• Correctional facility environment requires adherence to security protocols.
• Scrub color required: Navy Blue.
• Parking is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM 7:30 AM) per week.
• Weekend work required every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month).
• Return to office (RTO) limited to 5 days maximum with no more than 2 consecutive days.
• No RTO allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
