Position Overview

We are seeking qualified Training & Coaching Officers to support the delivery of comprehensive Pre-Service and Specialty Training to newly hired Department of Children's Services (DCS) staff.

The Training & Coaching Officer will also serve as an information liaison for new hires throughout onboarding and Pre-Service training. The ideal candidate will have direct child welfare field experience combined with strong training delivery and coaching skills, along with an understanding of trauma-informed care and the DCS Practice Model .

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Pre-Service and Specialty Training to newly hired DCS staff.
  • Provide training covering:
    • Fundamentals of Child Welfare
    • CPS
    • Foster Care
    • Juvenile Justice
    • Trauma-informed case management practices
    • DCS Practice Model and Practice Wheel
    • Engagement, Teaming, Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Tracking, and Adjusting
    • Self-care strategies
    • Motivational Interviewing techniques
  • Provide coaching and feedback to new hires based on field observations and identified practice gaps.
  • Facilitate Mentor Certification Programs .
  • Proctor Pre-Service assessments and support evaluation activities.
  • Participate in Case Panel Presentations.
  • Participate in Simulation Lab activities, depending on location.
  • Provide web-based technical assistance and support for virtual training.
  • Utilize Microsoft Teams and other digital platforms to conduct and support training.
  • Collaborate with training team members, program leadership, and regional leadership to ensure consistency and quality in training content and delivery.
  • Serve as an information liaison and resource for new hires during onboarding and Pre-Service training.
  • Travel as required for training, coaching, and field observation activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Copy of Bachelor's Degree must be submitted with the resume.
  • Minimum 1 year of direct child welfare field experience , such as:
    • Case Management
    • Child Welfare Investigations
    • Foster Care
    • Juvenile Justice
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in training delivery, adult education, or staff development .
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and other virtual training tools .
  • Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide effective coaching and feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience delivering training in a government or human services setting .
  • Certification or coursework in:
    • Trauma-Informed Care
    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Adult Learning Principles
Work Conditions
  • Hybrid work environment with both remote and on-site responsibilities.
  • Travel is required for in-person training, coaching sessions, and field observations.
  • Mileage reimbursement is available.
