Job Location: Medin Totowa NJ CT Div - Totowa, NJ 07512 Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 Salary Job Summary The Process Engineer is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting an aluminum anodizing production line. This role requires a strong background in chemical engineering principles, surface treatment processes, and industrial manufacturing. The engineer will ensure consistent product quality, improve process efficiency, and maintain safe handling of chemicals and equipment within the anodizing operation. Essential Job Functions Process Control & Optimization Monitor and maintain all stages of the anodizing line, including cleaning, etching, desmutting, anodizing, dyeing, and sealing. Optimize process parameters such as temperature, voltage, current density, bath chemistry, and dwell times. Analyze process data to identify trends and implement continuous improvements. Chemical Management Maintain proper chemical concentrations and balance in process tanks through regular testing and adjustments. Develop and refine chemical treatment procedures to improve coating quality and consistency. Coordinate with suppliers on chemical usage, replenishment, and waste treatment. Quality Assurance Ensure anodized coatings meet required specifications for thickness, corrosion resistance, color consistency, and adhesion. Investigate defects (e.g., burning, streaking, uneven coating) and implement corrective actions. Support audits and maintain documentation for quality standards (e.g., ISO, customer specifications). Equipment & Maintenance Support Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure proper functioning of rectifiers, pumps, filtration systems, and conveyors. Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues affecting the process line. Recommend upgrades or modifications to improve system reliability and efficiency. Safety & Environmental Compliance Ensure compliance with all safety regulations related to chemical handling, storage, and disposal. Support environmental compliance efforts, including wastewater treatment and emissions control. Conduct risk assessments and promote safe work practices on the production floor. Documentation & Training Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for anodizing processes. Train operators and technicians on process control, safety protocols, and best practices. Maintain accurate production and process records. Support internal processes, including Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI), Integrated Business Planning (IBP), Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDP). Support On-Time-Delivery (OTD) and Quality metric targets; seek opportunities to increase productivity and eliminate waste. Execute departmental work plans in conformance with company policies, procedures, regulations, best practices, management objectives, priorities, and financial impact on the business. Liaise with customers, suppliers, and third parties as necessary, including monitoring work progress. Read, interpret, and adhere to applicable drawings, blueprints, wire diagrams, manufacturing specifications, work instructions, regulations, manuals, and quality procedures. Attend and participate in applicable meetings and reports on key metrics. Maintain company records per applicable regulations and properly execute various forms, reports, and disclosures, as appropriate. Ensure job site safety, promote safe work practices and rectify job hazards, including clean work areas. Read, understand, and interpret the lockout/tag-out indicators in the work area. Regularly report to work on time, maintain acceptable attendance requirements, and work overtime as required. Experience working in manufacturing with trade terminology and nomenclature. Track record in process improvement and lean manufacturing. Medical device manufacturing experience. A thorough understanding and a working knowledge of all job phases. Knowledge and Experience Required Knowledge and Experience 3-7 years of experience in a related job role or in chemical processing or surface finishing, preferably in aluminum anodizing Bachelor's degree Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with knowledge of technical subject matter Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including an internship in a relevant trade. Preferred Knowledge and Experience Strong understanding of electrochemistry and metal finishing processes Experience with analytical testing methods (titration, pH, conductivity, etc.) Familiarity with process control systems and data analysis tools Knowledge of wastewater treatment and environmental regulations is a plus Experience working in manufacturing with trade terminology and nomenclature. Working Conditions: 100% of work takes place inside an industrial office/warehouse environment. Employees work in proximity to moving machinery, mechanical parts, and vehicles and may have exposure to prolonged loud noise, including sirens, horns, and tooling. Employees may handle hazardous material or have exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, biological hazards, and airborne fumes. The noise level is usually mild to moderate 75% of the time.
