Senior Lab Technician (Weekdays) - Spencer, MA

Position Summary As a global leader in the development of coated and laminated films and adhesives, Flexcon is looking for a Senior Lab Technician to join the New Product Development team at its headquarters in Spencer, Massachusetts. The Senior Lab Technician performs tests and analyses in Flexcon’s Research and Development Test Laboratory and provides support for Product Development scientists and engineers in the Research and Development team and other departments within the company. The role requires a thorough understanding of all safety and testing procedures. Minimum Knowledge, Education And Skill Requirements Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a similar field is preferred, not required. Two-year technical degree or associate degree and/or 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a lab environment focused on analytical testing is required. Excellent organization and teamwork skills, self‑directed and collaborative, are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions. Mathematical skills to analyze data/results and interpret testing outcomes; ability to propose appropriate follow‑up with supervision. Preparation of high‑quality, detailed and accurate lab records. Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Excel, Word, and Teams) and experience with electronic notebooks for lab data logging. Fine‑motor skills, such as measuring material to 0.01 in. Proficiency in using and maintaining laboratory equipment for testing and assisting with regulatory documentation. Observation skills, manual dexterity, and ability to handle chemicals while following safety protocols. Duties And Responsibilities Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Lab Technician. Adheres to all pre‑defined procedures and policies when conducting standard testing. Assists in the design and execution of non‑routine testing. Writes and updates test methods and publishes trial reports and trial order fact sheets under chemist direction. Requests lab samples and prepares sample materials according to procedures. Recommends tests to identify unknown samples and determines root causes of material failures. Quantifies acceptable performance ranges for materials and makes pass/fail decisions based on pre‑established limits. Documents clear and accurate test results in the electronic lab notebook, including strong conclusions tied to testing purpose. Communicates data‑driven concerns to key stakeholders in a timely manner. Performs ASTM literature searches to fulfill specification testing requests. Plans, prioritizes, and executes daily tasks based on workload, coordinating with teammates and resolving conflicts with management. Observes trials and provides observations to chemists to assist decision‑making. Handles confidential information daily. Calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment to ensure high‑quality data; troubleshoots analytical instrumentation with support. Identifies risks beyond scope and initiates solutions independently or collaboratively. Other duties consistent with the general nature and objectives of the position or department may be assigned.
