Growing Together.Pay Range: $24.99 - $37.94General Summary: Under general supervision the Mammography Technician, performs mammography scans using all precautions for mammography scanning safety. He/she provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self by adhering to prescribed practices and safety standards while producing high quality mammography examinations consistently. The Mammography Technician will ensure to obtain good positioning, appropriate patient demographics and safe effective use of the equipment. The Mammography Technician performs procedures according to the physician's orders and notifies the Radiologist of contradictions to examinations. The individual in this position also interviews the patient and follows patient preparation procedures.Main Responsibilities:Perform high quality radiologic and mammography exams on incoming patients through the operation of dedicated and complex mammography equipment in a patient care setting for the purpose of obtaining definitive diagnosis for positive findings on a mammogramProduce high quality diagnostic images that are free from artifacts or blurred images caused by motion, demonstrate the area(s) of interest, exhibit the optimum contrast/exposure needed to differentiate various types of normal and abnormal tissue (e.g., mammary, muscle, fat, lymph)Monitor patient's well-being during exams; recognizing patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate actionGuide patients through sometimes difficult process by kindly talking them through the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processCheck patient's history and prior reportsIn providing mammography services, is considerate of cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process of patients servedConduct patient interviews to attain full understanding of procedure to ultimately obtain consent of the patientSelect correct technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the patient's demographicsConsistently processes radiographic images properly, utilizing automated equipmentCritiques image and make necessary adjustments in technical factors, patient positioning, etc.Use independent judgment in critiquing radiographs and images to recognize normal and abnormal tissueAcquire additional required views and/or magnify images based on judgmentConsult with the radiologist or other clinician for purposes of clarifying orders and questionable images/structureRespond to physician questions and needs regarding patientsMay on occasion travel to other outpatient center(s) to help with coverage as neededParticipate in projects and/or meetings, and complete other tasks as assigned by managementFollow established processes/scope of practiceAdministers, recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures and administers CPR if necessaryDemonstrate knowledge of and consistently use proper sterile technique and/or proper infection control techniqueProcess images, digitizes/transmits films, copies films and archives images as neededDocuments clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner while maintaining documentation as required by all regulatory environs and the State of TNPerforms accurate calibration of mammographic equipmentAssist with training of new mammography technologists, assists with scheduling patients, locating films and reportsAssist radiologists with procedures as neededMaintains a neat, clean and safe environmentPerform quality control testing as indicatedEnsure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and proceduresAdhere to patient privacy act HIPAA, and confidentiality policy at all timesEducation/Experience/Knowledge:Independently perform all outpatient radiologic and mammography examsARRT(R) certification, Tennessee State licensure in radiography and mammographyCPR certification2+ years of mammography work experienceStrong communication and interpersonal abilitiesGraduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology in the State of TNPhysical/Mental Demands: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
