Position: Travel RN - Trauma Stepdown

Unit Information

Location: Medical City Denton, Denton, TX

Unit: Surgical Trauma-63610

Number of Beds: 25

Staffing: 44 FTEs (57 headcount)

Shift Information

Shift: 7P - 7A

Team Structure

• Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 3 Techs, 1 Secretary
• Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 3 Techs

Patient Ratios

1:4 (maximum 1:5 for stepdown)

Equipment Used

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech

On Call Requirements

No on-call duty required.

Floating Requirements

Floating to stepdown service lines, including Progressive Care Unit and Heart and Vascular Unit, may be expected.

Essential Qualifications

Must Have:

• ACLS Certification
• BLS Certification
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in Trauma and Orthopedic nursing
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR system

Typical Procedures and Patient Conditions

The unit specializes in caring for patients requiring acute surgical intervention and post-operative care, including but not limited to:

• Trauma Surgery
• Bariatric Surgery
• Vascular Surgery
• Traumatic Brain Injury Management
• General Surgery
• Urological Surgery
• Orthopedic Surgery
• Neuro/Spine Surgery
• GI Bleed/Endoscopy
• Pulmonary Embolus Management
• Patients with neurological diagnoses including CVA, TIA, TBI, and altered mental status
• Pre and Post-operative care for cardiac procedures
• Management of chest pain and acute cardiac conditions
• Hemodynamically stable patients requiring IV medication management
• Respiratory distress management

Vital Signs Monitoring

Monitored parameters include:

• Heart Rate: 50-150 bpm
• Blood Pressure: 90 mmHg - 180 mmHg Systolic
• Respiratory Rate: 10-30 breaths per minute
• Oxygen Saturation: Greater than 90%

IV Drip Management

Patients may be managed with the following intravenous medications:

• Agatroban
• Agrastat/Integrelin/ReoPro
• Amiodarone
• Cardene
• Cardizem
• Dobutamine
• Dopamine
• Heparin
• Lasix
• Morphine or Ativan for palliative care
• Nitroglycerin
• Primacor
• Sodium Bicarbonate
