ER Veterinary Technician (Day and Overnight Shifts) PetVet Care Centers' Memphis Veterinary Specialists & Emergency is seeking an ER Veterinary Technician to join their team. This role supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients. Position Overview Provide patient care, determine animal requirements, conduct examinations and diagnostic procedures, assist during surgery and operations, provide nursing care, assist with feeding and caring for patients, maintain medical supplies and equipment, oversee triage and discharge patients, and maintain patient medical records. Essential Position Functions Determine animal requirements by conducting brief exams, collecting medical histories, reviewing care plans, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging. Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, wound care, and post‑operative monitoring for critically ill patients. Support patient examinations and operations by assembling supplies and instruments, restraining patients, and aiding as directed by the veterinarian. Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and drug administration. Obtain and verify medications. Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms, cages, and equipment, and observe clinical signs of disease. Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including documentation, logging, and controlled‑drug security. Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment through sterilization, sanitization, disinfection, and compliance with regulations. Maintain medical records by documenting conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database accurately and timely. Communicate patient status to owners as directed by the veterinarian. Maintain equipment per operating instructions, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and request repairs. Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional journals. Release pets to owners as directed, ensuring cleanliness and grooming. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice. Emergency Assist veterinarians with a variety of emergency procedures and critical care situations. Monitor vitals, place catheters, and take x‑rays. Clean wounds and apply casts or bandages. Give injections and take blood samples. Work 3 shifts per week, 12–14 hours per shift. Receive night and weekend shift differential hourly pay. Schedule Dayshift, nightshift, swing shift with rotating weekends. Overnight schedule: 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM, with at least one weekend night. Must demonstrate care, compassion, team orientation, dependability, initiative, flexibility, communication, customer service, organization, detail orientation, and adherence to rules. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) preferred. Experience in ER preferred. Position Knowledge and Skill Requirements Knowledge of preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery and advanced veterinary nursing. Demonstrate correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology. Understand and limit exposure to bites, scratches, and injuries. Restrain patients per standard procedures. Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation as directed. Work with hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors. Display confidence and reassurance with severely stressed, ill, or painful pets. Communicate professionally and maturely. Job includes strenuous lifting, cleaning, and constant motion. May involve extended keyboard, workstation, standing, or walking periods. Includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Moderately physically demanding work, lifting up to 50 lb. Answer phones and perform other duties as needed. Other duties as assigned by Manager or practice. $18 — $22 USD
