TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Research Support Technician I, Support Team / Non-exempt PositionREPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MDREPORTS TO: Manager, Research Support TeamPRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Provide general technical support for in vivo oncology studies in mice.VARIOUS SCHEDULE OPTIONS: Mon-Fri 7-3:30 OR 9-5:30; Mon-Thurs 7-5:30; Tues-Fri 7-5:30DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide in vivo technical support for oncology studies with miceTumor volume measurements with calipers for stock miceRandomization of animals onto studyBody weight measurements in LIMSRemoval of Surgical StaplesEuthanasia of animalsPerform general study preparation and laboratory organizationMovement of Animals to Other team locationsPreserve room organizationAssist with Pre-Op care, including but not limited to shavingAdditional responsibilities as deemed necessaryKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong mouse technical in vivo skillsAbility to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of accountability, integrity and confidentiality.Strong written and verbal communication skillsStrong general computer usage skills (email, spreadsheets, databases)Willingness to assist with other duties in a dynamic environmentEagerness to learn and master new skillsStrong focus on animal welfareAbility to observe safety and security proceduresEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEPreferred: BS degree in animal science, biology, or related field.Preferred: AALAS ALAT certificationPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTMust be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feelMust be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 poundsMust be able to sit or stand for long periods of time in a typical laboratory environmentSome activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushingIn carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes/chemical hazardsDuties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissueThis description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions, it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
