Job Description

The Critical Care Surgeon routinely performs outpatient general surgery and inpatient critical care and general surgery patient care; determines diagnoses, and initiates treatments based on education, training and standards of care. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Position duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
• Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workups, history & physicals, and admission of general and subspecialty critical care patients as needed. Clinical duties include but are not limited to Operating Room (experience in wide variety of standard general surgical procedures and operations including laparoscopy), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics. Will be able to perform a wide variety of open surgical procedures.
• Supervise residents from the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program and other training programs, as well as medical students from University of Arizona and Podiatry students and residents who rotate through the Critical Care rotation.
• Participate in night call and perform emergency general surgical procedures to include night call for ICU patients.
• Provide patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen.
• Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate, including outcomes reporting as appropriate.
• Maintain clinical privileges as a member of the Medical Staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
