POSITION SUMMARY:
This position contributes to the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services vision and mission by exercising appropriate nursing judgment based on knowledge, skills and understanding in nursing situations, participates in planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, is involved in a quality assurance program to provide optimal patient care. SUPERVISION: Reports to Director of Nursing SHIFT: Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt, Evenings and/or Nights (occasional weekend/holiday coverage as needed)JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing is required; BSN preferred. BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, and TNCC certifications required. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in nursing required and five (5) years of progressive experience in nursing preferred. Nursing management/leadership experience preferred.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning and administering activities of a nursing unit or floor. Makes patient assignments for the next shift Assists the nursing staff to implement appropriate infection control measures including, but not limited to, hand washing, isolation, disposal of infectious wastes, and the use and storage of cleaning chemicals. Assists the nursing staff as needed with patient care. Coordinates overall continuity of patient care by assisting, directing, and monitoring nursing staff, assuring that TCHS policies and procedures are followed. Ensures daily tasks such as bedside shift report, crash cart checks, counting of narcotics, patient rounding, fall alarms are being utilized appropriately, etc. are completed. Allocates and directs staffing needs to meet patient, unit/department and organizational needs and collaborates with others to ensure overall staffing needs are met; develops a 6‑week schedule. Supervises nursing services are delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards. Acts as liaison between provider and patient care team. Assists Director of Nursing in staff performance evaluations including setting goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, recognizing performance, developing skills and addressing performance issues related to work and TCHS Behavior Standards using TCHS Corrective Action. Provides support, interacts and serves as a clinical resource to patient care staff. Functions as a resource for policy and procedure interpretation. Utilizes appropriate patient care interventions. Provides formal and informal in‑service to nursing staff about new policies, procedures, and technologies necessary for patient care. Identifies and responds to risk/emergency situations to decrease risk exposure to patients, family members, staff, and organization. Follows approved procedure for notification of appropriate departments and individuals involving risk management issues. Assumes administrative responsibilities in the absence of administration. Assures appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local agency laws, internal/external regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and professional standards. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in meetings, in‑service programs, continuing education programs, and fulfills yearly requirements as stated by policy. Participates in achieving nursing division goals. Participates in achieving nursing department goals. Appropriately delegates nursing procedures which do not require the skill/knowledge or judgment of a licensed professional and which may be safely delegated in accordance with nursing policies and procedures. Supervises the provision of care by non‑licensed personnel as necessary. Utilizes current evidence‑based practice when providing direct patient care. Participates in organizational leadership development opportunities Other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer.PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Will perform all duties as described by the job description within the scope of licensure. Maintains current professional license/certifications in accordance with state law. Provides leadership in medical concerns in the absence of the physician. Does not discuss patient matters such as medical treatment, diagnosis or history outside of the clinical setting in, maintains HIPAA compliance. Maintains the TCHS Behavior Standards. Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change. Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care; maintain high personal hygiene standards. Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a “We Care” philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.WORKING CONDITIONS:
