JOB SUMMARY

Position: Playground Monitor Location: Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary School, Vancouver, Washington Starting Date: August 24, 2026 Hours: 4.54 hours per day (9:40 a.m. – 2:42 p.m., including a 30‑minute unpaid lunch); 3.08 hours on early release days (9:25 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) – 190 days per year (180 student days + 10 holidays) Position Type: Part‑time | Permanent Salary: $24.42 to $31 per hour (negotiated)

SUMMARY STATEMENT

Under the supervision of the building Principal, the Playground Monitor is responsible for supervision of students on the playground and surrounding areas and/or in the cafeteria so that the safety and well‑being of all students is guaranteed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Supervise and monitor students on the playground and surrounding areas until they return to their respective classrooms, keeping students out of hallways, away from parking lots, bike racks, and other unsafe areas. Establish and maintain a safe and cooperative attitude on the playground. Understand and enforce the playground rules and procedures. Carry out discipline procedures as defined by the building Principal. Record any student behavior that is not acceptable or appropriate. Identify unsafe playground equipment and submit a written report to the building Principal outlining specific problems. Submit a written report of all playground injuries to the building Principal as soon as they occur. Perform first aid/CPR when necessary.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform cafeteria monitor duties when necessary. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Demonstrated ability to effectively apply techniques in working with students in the area of behavior management. Must possess current First Aid/CPR certification, or be able to acquire within 45 days. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
