The Facilities Services Division (FSD), Community Relations Department connects FSD professionals (planners, architects, environmentalist, construction experts) with students, families, staff, and the broader community. The Department promotes transparency by providing clear, accurate and timely information and creating opportunities for meaningful public participation in bond-funded modernization and new construction projects throughout the planning, design and construction process District wide. Through targeted outreach, community meetings, and engagement efforts, we foster meaningful and long-term stakeholder participation; always with the goal of building trust, encouraging honest communication, and fostering transparency. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES A Community Outreach Organizer engages the different sectors of the community, school administrators, elected officials, regulatory agencies, and the Board of Education in the process of construction and modernization projects, as well as programs and initiatives of the Facilities Services Division. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to: Identifying, contacting, and working with the different sectors of the community, school administrators, and the offices of elected officials, Board of Education, legislators, Local District Superintendents and regulatory agencies to engage them in the process of construction and modernization projects, as well as programs and initiatives of the Facilities Services Division and to notify them of community meetings and events. Implementing community outreach strategic plans for assigned projects. Scheduling, coordinating, organizing and attending outreach activities such as community meetings and events throughout the District to engage and inform the community regarding the Facilities Services Division’s construction and modernization projects, programs and initiatives. Providing community feedback to Facilities Services Division administrators and staff. Receiving community inquiries, gathering information from appropriate District personnel, and tracking responses. Working closely with various Facilities Services Division departments to obtain relevant information and communicating it clearly to the community, elected officials, and government agencies. Informing and engaging the community on the school construction process including site selection, California Environmental Quality Act and Environmental Protection Agency policies and procedures, acquisition and relocation, and design and construction issues. Informing the community of the Facilities Services Division’s projects, programs, and initiatives. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, community relations, urban planning, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Experience Two years of experience in a public or private agency performing community outreach activities to obtain diverse community support for community improvement projects, preferably including organizing community outreach campaigns or fieldwork for community based organizations. Special A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and use of a motor vehicle. Ability to communicate in Spanish orally and in writing is preferred.

Incumbents in this classification may be required to travel extensively and must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will be a hardworking, goal-oriented professional who will be able to build relationships and work well with community members and organizations. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate fluently in Spanish; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; analyze and synthesize information from a variety of sources to develop outreach materials and action plans; exercise tact and diplomacy in responding to public inquiries; effectively manage multiple projects and priorities; plan and present information to diverse audiences; and facilitate large in-person and virtual community meetings with a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will also have experience organizing outreach campaigns or fieldwork for community-based organizations and knowledge of public relations principles.
