Lead Taxpayer Advocate

Responsibilities The incumbent serves as team lead responsible for assisting the supervisor with aiding taxpayers in resolving unusual, complex, or urgent matters related to District individual income, real property, and business taxes. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing assistance to citizens, tax and legal professionals, and government representatives regarding business, individual income, real property taxes, fees, and a broad range of technical tax information; researching District tax codes, regulations, policies, tax forms, etc. to educate taxpayers on their rights and responsibilities in fulfilling their tax obligations; assisting staff members with performing a variety of duties and responsibilities related to complex tax issues, focused on providing excellent customer service; and distributing and balancing the workload amongst other employees and assuring timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Four (4) years of progressive experience performing duties related to assisting taxpayers with income tax preparation and resolving complex tax issues; knowledge of tax codes, regulations, and tax publications to provide technical guidance; determining tax liabilities; and educating taxpayers on their rights and responsibilities to fulfill tax obligations.
