Optometrist Assistant

Location: Akron, OH 44303
Pay Rate: $16.00-$19.00 per hour (pay is dependent on experience)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week

Schedule Options:

• 4x10s: Four 10-hour shifts per week; the Optometrist is off Mondays.
• 5x8s: Monday-Friday, with hours of either 8:00 AM-4:30 PM or 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Monday will be primarily an administrative day.

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and patient-focused Optometrist Assistant to join our team in Akron, OH. This position will support the optometrist with clinical examinations, pretesting, patient care, optical services, and administrative responsibilities. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

• Obtain and accurately document patient medical histories, vital signs, test results, and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Conduct exam pretesting procedures and prepare patients for comprehensive eye examinations.
• Prepare treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assist practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care needs.
• Take measurements and make adjustments for glasses to ensure proper fit and comfort.
• Verify eyeglass powers for accuracy.
• Provide compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and their families.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Sterilize and properly maintain equipment before and after examinations.
• Answer incoming phone calls and return patient calls promptly and professionally.
• Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.
• Provide exemplary customer service to all patients.
• Monitor, maintain, and manage medical supply inventory.
• Assist with additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of optometric assisting experience preferred.
• CPO Certification preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented clinical environment.
• Ability to learn and adapt to clinical and optical procedures.
