Lead Professional, Civil Engineer

Job Overview Lead Professional Site Civil Engineer at WSP New Orleans office, supporting electrical utility and renewable energy service sectors. This Opportunity Provide technical support and leadership for multi‑site projects including due diligence, investigation, remediation, permitting, and construction of infrastructure systems in public and private sectors. Deploy subject‑matter expertise across research, design, planning, and construction of facilities, roads, buildings, tunnels, bridges, water supply, sewage treatment, and more. Ensure performance meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS, utilities, hydrologic analysis, and geotechnical data to support project development. Apply advanced civil engineering techniques to design and improve infrastructure across concept, preliminary, final design, procurement, construction, and operation phases. Conduct investigations and inspections of sites, resources, facilities, pipelines, pollution sources, buildings, and power plants to verify compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and update layout plans requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients. Manage projects from inception to completion, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, grading, drainage, pavement design, materials, phasing, and construction safety plans. Oversee advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, and design standards to ensure safety and functionality for end‑users and transportation systems. Lead larger‑scale projects, preparing and monitoring budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors and employees. Assist in engineering reviews of permits, design plans, contracts, waste management plans, and construction inspections to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Engage with public or private entities about engineering and construction challenges and programs. Present technical reports and presentations explaining research findings and recommendations. Build a client base for high‑level civil engineering services and identify business development opportunities. Mentor staff for growth and professional development. Remain current with latest engineering techniques and practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on federally, state, regional, and locally funded projects. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline. 7–10 years of post‑education engineering and civil design experience. Engineer license required. Highly proficient in civil engineering principles, practices, design/build, and permitting. Experienced in infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management. Strong knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance, and record‑keeping. Proficiency in technical computations and engineering principles. Experience conducting inspections and investigations for construction and design of facilities. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences. Self‑leadership and ability to influence clients, regulators, project managers, and staff. Works independently with QA/QC adherence. Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS), and spreadsheets. Ability to critically review documents and produce complex technical deliverables. Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills applied to testing, data analysis, and solution selection. Experience directing subcontractors to safe and efficient completion. Track record of workplace safety compliance and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies. Flexibility to diverse schedules, prioritization, and adaptability under pressure. Occasional travel may be required.
