Job Title: Med/Surg Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 19:00-07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience in a hospital setting License: Must have RN license Certifications: Must have ACLS, BLS & PALS certifications Must-Have: Candidates may be responsible for taking care of pediatric/adolescent patients on occasion Description: Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Prepare and administer prescribed medications, recording doses and reporting adverse reactions in accordance with policy. Educate patients on surgical procedures and record medical information and vital signs. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret electronic displays. Initiate corrective action whenever a patient displays adverse symptoms. Provide bedside care for a variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians. Teach patients and their significant others how to manage their illness or injury, including explaining post-treatment home care needs. Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs as needed. Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments. Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Participate in discharge planning and utilize effective time management skills. Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner. Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting.
