Job Description & Requirements Specialty: DOU - Direct Observation Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 09/28/2026 Duration: 12 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Estimated Gross Weekly Pay: $ 2160 $500 CONTRACT COMPLETION BONUS Opportunity: RN - Med Surg/Observation Job Details: • 1-2 years of experience in an acute care setting required • First-time travelers are welcome • Care for patient types including rule-out chest pain, post cath lab, CHF, AFib, rule-out CVAs, TIAs, post IR, cellulitis, and AKI • Average patient stay of 36 hours with rare surgical patients • Admit and discharge 2-3 patients daily in a fast-paced environment • Patient ratios: Day shift 1:4-5, Night shift 1:6-8 • Tech support ratios: Day 1:5, Night 1:9 • Required certification: BLS • Skills required include ostomy care, drain management, IV skills, and drip management (heparin, insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone) • Most patients are ambulatory; no ventilators or trachs • Basic med-surg skills required; experience in observation unit preferred • Experience with admissions and discharges preferred • Unit support includes charge nurse, unit secretary 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, respiratory therapy in-house 24/7, centralized telemetry monitoring with tele tech 24/7, and phlebotomy assistance • Charting system and equipment: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors • Floating may be required to Med-Surg units and ED Holding at a 1:4 ratio; travelers float first • Orientation consists of 4-8 hour NEO orientation on day shift followed by one full shift on the unit based on experience • Weekend rotation every other weekend • Schedule is created 6 weeks at a time and provided 2 weeks before the start of the schedule • No on-call required • Cannot work more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts per fatigue policy • Holiday expectation of 1 holiday per season including Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and NYE/New Year's Day • Scrub color: Any color accepted, no camouflage or denim • Must document pain levels before and after administering pain medications • Free parking available in designated areas Facility: This facility is a large 933-bed hospital holding Magnet Designation and recognized as a Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The facility also includes a Level III NICU and provides a comprehensive range of specialty services to the community. The unit features robust support staff available around the clock, modern charting systems, and centralized telemetry monitoring to ensure high-quality patient care.
