Staff Veterinarian- SA 24/7 ER Posting Number: S14945P Working Title: Staff Veterinarian- SA 24/7 ER Department: VetMed-VTH Small Animal Emerg Position Type: External Employment Type: Employee Salary: $140,000 Posting Date: 04/01/2026 Closing Date: Posted until filled Proposed Starting Date: 05/01/2026 Opening Overview The staff emergency veterinarian (ER staff vet) will provide emergency service as part of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Small Animal Emergency/Critical Care Service (ECC). This is a full‑time position with 100% service‑related responsibilities within the hospital, including receiving and managing emergency patients; providing support to interns, residents, students, and staff; and assisting with the care of inpatients. The staff vet reports directly to the hospital director and represents the unit on the hospital board. Minimum Qualifications DVM and valid state licensure. Licensed to practice as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the state of Georgia. Completion of a rotating internship or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience within an emergency critical care unit in a veterinary hospital. ECC field experience within an emergency animal hospital. Key Responsibilities Receive patients presenting to the emergency service (ER) and work with ECC faculty and staff to provide continuity of care for ER patients. (60% of time) Assist with the care of patients admitted to the ER. (15%) Serve as a resource for and provide oversight of staff, house officers, and students working within the ER. (15%) Provide consultations regarding hospitalized patients in the ICU, intermediate care area, or small animal isolation wards as necessary. (15%) Provide guidance and mentorship of house officers who work in the ER, including assistance with client communications as necessary. (10%) Provide leadership and continuity after hours regarding patient care and hospital protocols. (10%) Physical Demands Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces. Work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large, heavy objects/containers/machinery. Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc. Work for long periods of time with arms extended. Background Investigation Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background investigation including a criminal background check, verification of credentials and employment history, and, if applicable, a satisfactory credit check. A pre‑employment drug test may also be required for positions with high‑risk responsibilities. Employment & Benefits Full Time. Compensation includes $140,000.
